I used to watch a lot of movies. Back in college, I sometimes watched 2 or 3 movies in a single day. But recently, my routine shifted. I just stopped watching movies. It wasn’t because I didn’t have time — I just chose to waste time in other ways.
Lately, I’ve started using Letterboxd because the app I previously used to track movies, Cinetrak, began charging way too much. At first, I didn’t like Letterboxd very much. It wasn’t as simple as Cinetrak, and tracking series felt like a hassle. But luckily, Letterboxd supports importing playlists from Trakt, so at least I was able to transfer my existing movie list.
The best feature, in my opinion, is being able to connect with friends on the app. I can see what they’re watching and follow their activity. This has expanded my own watchlist quite a bit — I keep adding new movies. My watchlist is now huge. For about 5–6 months, I was watching One Piece and sidelined all movies so I could finish it. That’s one of the main reasons my watchlist exploded.
Recently, though, I discovered the shuffle feature in Letterboxd. It lets you shuffle your watchlist and the app picks a movie for you. This has been saving me a lot of time. Now, I just need to stream or download the movie — the hardest part, choosing what to watch, is taken care of. Before, I used to spend hours scrolling through different platforms trying to decide.
Another thing I love is the surprise element. Whenever I add a movie to my watchlist, I don’t read the plot, watch the trailer, or look up anything about it. I just add it. So when I finally watch it, I go in completely blind. That makes the experience so much more exciting.
These small stuffs have increased the movie watching. But still I have focus issue while watching. Watching continuously has become a task. That’s something I have to fix.
